Aquafleur Cryptocoryne Petchii
Cryptocoryne beckettii 'Petchii' is a small variety of Cryptocoryne beckettii from Sri Lanka, known for its beautiful, slightly fluted leaf margins, 10-15 cm long.
This plant is a popular choice for aquariums and features elongated, narrow leaves that can vary in colour from green to reddish-brown, often displaying attractive patterns. The leaves become dark olive-brown with a violet underside. Like many other Cryptocorynes, the leaf colour and shape depend largely on environmental conditions in the aquarium.
It thrives in soft, slightly acidic water and can tolerate a range of water parameters, preferring low to moderate light conditions, making it suitable for various setups, including low-tech aquariums.
Cryptocoryne petchii propagates through runners (stolons) that emerge from the main plant. In its natural habitat, it typically grows submerged or partially submerged in slow-moving waters such as rivers and streams.
For aquariums, regular maintenance such as water changes and the provision of nutrients will promote healthy growth.
It is crucial to avoid abrupt changes in the environment, as Cryptocoryne species can be sensitive to sudden fluctuations. It is common for Cryptocorynes to suffer crypt melt when first introduced to an aquarium. This is normal, and they will regrow their leaves in a few weeks. Seachem Flourish Advance is often used to help reduce melt and aid in quicker regrowth.
