Aquafleur Bolbitis heudelotii
Bolbitis heudelotii, also known as African water fern, is an aquatic plant from the family Dryopteridaceae, native to tropical regions of Africa.
Appearance
It has long, feathery fronds that can grow to be 20cm+ long with bright green leaves, giving it a bushy appearance.
Planting
This slow-growing fern thrives in freshwater environments, often found in streams and rivers where it receives indirect light.
While it doesn't need substrate for growth, it is often found attached to rocks or driftwood.
Fertiliser & CO2
It will benefit from a liquid fertiliser (used sparingly). Supplying CO2 will considerably enhance the growth, which is optimal in soft, slightly acidic water.
Bolbitis heudelotii can be propagated by dividing its rhizomes, ensuring each section has a few leaves for successful growth. In aquascaping, it serves well as a background or midground plant, adding to the aesthetic appeal of aquariums while providing shelter for small fish and shrimp.
With proper care, this plant can thrive and contribute to a lush, natural aquatic environment.
