ADA Rotala wallichi 'bangladesh'
This stunning, fast-growing stem plant was initially identified as Rotala sp. "Bangladesh" and later thought to be a variety of Rotala mexicana. However, further research revealed that it actually belongs to Rotala wallichii, which is why it is now correctly referred to as R. wallichii 'Bangladesh' instead of R. mexicana 'Bangladesh.'
How to use Rotala wallichi 'bangladesh'
Rotala wallichii ‘Bangladesh’ makes an impressive centerpiece or background plant, especially in larger aquariums with a water depth of 40 cm or more. Its upright, vibrant shoots, with their fine, delicate leaves, are sure to catch the eye.
Rotala wallichii bangladesh's leaves, measure approximately 3 cm long and 1 mm wide, are wider than those of the typical Rotala wallichii, with a lighter colouration that varies from light green to light red. This colour shift is influenced by factors like light intensity and nutrient levels, meaning individual shoots in a stand may display subtle colour differences. Additionally, this plant has lower care requirements compared to other Rotala species.
Plant Maintenance
While the Bangladesh Rotala is easier to care for than many other fine-leaved Rotala varieties, it still thrives best with strong lighting, CO2 supplementation, and a full range of macro and micronutrients in the water column. Its rapid growth necessitates regular pruning, which also helps encourage branching. It's recommended to plant several clusters of a few shoots, spaced closely together in the substrate. Once the shoots reach a height of around 20 cm or more, shaping the plant through pruning becomes possible. Propagation is achieved by cutting top or side shoots, similar to other stem plants.
