In this guide, we'll explain everything you need to know about ADA tissue culture plants — including their benefits, popular varieties, and expert tips for planting and care. ADA tissue culture aquarium plants are of high quality and include both common, well-known species as well as rare and unusual aquatic varieties.

BIO Mizukusa no Mori

BIO Mizukusa no Mori — meaning "Bio Aquatic Plant Forest" in Japanese — is ADA’s premium line of tissue culture aquarium plants, carefully cultivated to bring lush, healthy greenery into your aquascape.

The careful cultivation process preserves the natural beauty and integrity of each species, allowing your aquarium to mirror the serene forests and riverbeds of the natural world — just as Takashi Amano envisioned.

What is Tissue Culture?

ADA (Aqua Design Amano) tissue culture plants are aquatic plants grown in sterile laboratory conditions. Using a nutrient-rich gel or liquid, ADA carefully cultivates these plants to be free from algae, snails, and pathogens. This ensures that when you add them to your aquarium, you're starting with clean, healthy plants that are primed for success. Unlike traditional potted plants, ADA tissue culture plants come in sealed containers and are ready to thrive from day one.

Benefits of Choosing ADA Tissue Culture Plants

1. 100% Pest-Free

No more battling unwanted snails, algae, or parasites. ADA’s sterile growing conditions guarantee a clean, safe start for your aquascape.

2. Healthier Growth

Tissue culture plants from ADA are raised in optimal conditions, resulting in strong roots and vibrant leaves that adapt quickly to your aquarium.

3. Wide Variety

From carpeting plants like Hemianthus callitrichoides to stunning stems like Rotala rotundifolia, ADA offers a wide range of species to fit every aquascape style.

4. Longer Shelf Life

Stored properly, ADA tissue culture plants stay healthy longer than traditional aquatic plants, giving you flexibility in your aquascaping schedule.

Tissue Culture Cup Sizes S & M

There are two sizes of cups, small and medium, both with the same diameter; the sizes refer to the height medium being significantly taller than the small cup, allowing taller plants to develop properly. Where are the small is a standard size cup for slower growing and smaller species.

Small size - 8cm x 4.5 Medium size 8cm x 8cm

ADA Unique Tissue Culture Gel's

ADA Use 5 different types of culture media for their aquatic plants,

  • The first two types are standard what you would expect to see from other tissue culture brands a clear type gel and a off white clouded gel to suit a variety of plants such as utricularia graminifolia and Hemianthus callitrichoides ‘cuba’
  • The Third media is black in colour as it has added activated carbon, they use this for plants such as Glossostigma elatinoides which release more waste, the carbon will absorb harmful waste.
  • The fourth is made is similar colour to the first and second but with a yellowish hue, this is because natural additives like banana or coconut water are added to the gel to act as a PH buffer.
  • The final one is actually a liquid type rather than a gel and is suitable for the cultivation of aquatic plants

How to Plant Tissue Culture Aquarium Plants

The product is user-friendly, allowing for effortless application. Simply rinse away any gel media, and then carefully position it in your chosen location within the aquarium.

Getting started with ADA plants is simple if you follow these steps:

  1. Rinse Thoroughly
Gently wash off the nutrient gel under running water to prevent any contamination.

  2. Divide Into Small Portions
Split the tissue culture into small clumps for easier planting and faster spreading.

  3. Use Tweezers to Plant
Carefully insert each portion into your substrate with aquascaping tweezers, spacing them evenly.

  4. Provide Good Conditions
Check the descriptions on our website of the specific plant to check it's needs. Ensure the correct lighting is provided and inject CO₂ if recommended. A nutrient-rich substrate like ADA Amazonia will encourage rapid root development of stem plants.
