Aquafleur Hyptis Laciniata
Hyptis laciniata, introduced from Colombia a few years ago, is still a rarity. Belonging to the Mint family, it is relatively new in the aquarium hobby. The Purple bushmint, found in northern South America, has laciniate leaves and moderately fast growth.
Purple bushmint doesn't require a lot of maintenance, but providing it with plenty of nutrients and CO2 can greatly benefit its growth. Strong lighting enhances the purplish color of the shoot tips. It can be easily propagated by cuttings and periodic selective trimming will help keep the bush in shape.
This unique new plant, Hyptis laciniata, is a great addition to aquariums. It's bushy, reaching about 20 cm in height, and offers a smaller alternative to Hygrophila difformis with its pinkish to purple tones. It thrives in water currents and is suitable for South America-themed tanks, as well as emersed setups. When in its terrestrial form, it produces button-like flower heads.
