ADA Ludwigia senegalensis
Ludwigia senegalensis is an African plant that entered the aquarium hobby as Ludwigia 'Guinea' and has gained popularity for its striking red leaves.
How to use Ludwigia senegalensis
As a small stem plant, it features reddish foliage with a unique red web pattern which is present under ideal conditions. It's best suited for the mid-ground of aquarium as it doesn't get excessively tall.
The plant exhibits various growth forms based on its environment. Low light conditions produce greener leaves with less red, while high light enhances the red colouration, covering most of the leaf except for a central line. In subpar conditions, leaves become smaller and stems thinner; better conditions yield larger, fuller leaves. However it is not overly demanding and can be grown in low tech setups without CO2, but expect a more greener looking plant.
Plant Maintenance
Trim the top and replant it like any regular stem plant. The lower sections will produce side shoots.
Key Information
- High light and good fertilisation will bring out strong colouration
