ADA Glossostigma elatinoides
Glossostigma is a popular foreground aquarium plant with 'spoon shaped' leaves, Native to Australia, Tasmania & New zealand. It has been in the aquarium hobby for over 30 years, Mr. Takashi Amano frequently used Glossostigma and still to this day it has a bold presence in the ADA gallery.
How to use Glossostigma elatinoides
Glossostigma is perfect for nano aquariums due to its small size, but also a great use in larger aquariums with a larger carpeting area. In larger aquariums, you can break up the carpet by planting small areas of small Eleocharis species, Riccia Fluitians, Helanthium tenellum to create a more natural 'wild look'
Plant Maintenance
This aquarium plant is also known to grow vertically instead of carpetting, this usually occurs when there is poor flow reaching the carpeting area, ensure you have plenty of flow, you can also choose filtration outflow pipes that aim downwards. Also make sure you trim to encourage the plant to grow more compact.
Growing emersed
Glossostigma can also be used in paludariums/terrariums out of the water in high-humidity areas. When immersed, it can produce beautiful white, sometimes pale pink flowers.
