ADA Eriocaulon quinquangulare
Eriocaulon Quinquangulare is a rare and highly sought after red aquatic plant admired for its unique star-shaped rosette and delicate, needle-like leaves that create an intricate texture and stunning visual effect in any aquascape. Its striking appearance makes it standout feature in an aquascape.
How to use Eriocaulon quinquangulare
The unique colour of this plant can make it challenging to use effectively, particularly since few red plants are suitable for the foreground. As a result, it may stand out in an undesirable way. To balance its bold hue, pairing it with other brown or reddish plants—such as Helenium tenelum Red, Albida Brown, Reineckii Mini, or Cryptocoryne Flamingo, can help complement its tone and allow it to blend seamlessly into the foreground or midground of the aquarium, alternatively, purposely creating contrast and pairing with Eleocharis or Staurogyne repens can also look effective.
Plant Maintenance
To flourish, it requires fairly high lighting and the addition of CO2 to support healthy growth. With its advanced care requirements, this plant is best suited for experienced aquarists who understand the needs of more advanced aquatic species. To increase the vibrance of the red, nitrate limitation methods can be effective however this will slow down the growth rate and can result in a weaker plant making it more susceptible to algae, using high lighting will also help with the colouration.
As the plantlets grow alongside the mother plant, they can be carefully separated by hand. The division between the plantlets will be clearly visible once the plant is uprooted.
