ADA Eleocharis montevidensis

Eleocharis montevidensis is a versatile aquatic grass that enhances the beauty of freshwater aquariums with its vibrant grass green colour. This species typically reaches a height of 40 cm, making it an ideal choice for both mid-ground and background planting. Each slender shoot is only a few millimeters thick, giving the plant a delicate and airy appearance that softens the overall aquascape.

How to use Eleocharis Montevidensis

Characterised by its open form of growth, Eleocharis montevidensis provides an excellent canvas for creating depth and perspective within the aquarium. It can be strategically positioned in the background, while also being planted in front or at the centre in transparent clusters. This versatility allows aquarists to design stunning landscapes that draw the eye and invite exploration.

Plant Maintenance 

As a low-maintenance plant, Eleocharis montevidensis requires minimal care, making it a perfect choice for both novice and experienced aquarists. However it does take some time to become established and should not be over shadowed by larger plants.

It spreads through runners, forming lush carpets over time, which may require manual removal to maintain its tidy appearance. 

It is important to note that montevidensis does not do well being trimmed, any damage caused to the grass strand often causes it to turn yellow and die, it is therefore best to remove excessively tall strands from the base.

It is also sensitive to chemicals designed to kill algae and often melts as a result.
