Benefits of Oxygen in an Aquarium

In planted aquariums, plants take in CO2 during photosynthesis when provided with sufficient lighting, but during the nighttime phase, plants take up oxygen and release CO2.

In non-planted tanks, the oxygen provided by the air stone makes up for the lack of oxygen produced the plants.
