ADA Hygrophila pinnatifida
Hygrophila pinnatifida from Aqua Design Amano is a striking aquatic plant native to India, is known for its unique and eye-catching foliage. The leaves are characterised by a brownish/reddish hue (depending on light).
How to use Hygrophila pinnatifida
Its vibrant colours are most striking when planted in small clusters. While Hygrophila pinnatifida grows at a slow to moderate rate, it thrives under intense lighting, which encourages tighter, more compact growth. With its unique leaf patterns, contrasting colours, and versatile nature, it adds both texture and interest to any aquarium setup, especially when used strategically in aquascaping designs.
Plant Maintenance
As the plant matures, it produces horizontal side shoots that spread outwardly. To encourage a dense growth, it’s recommended to regularly pinch out the shoots, promoting compact and attractive growth. Trimming causes the plant to stay small whereas leaving it will allow the plant to grow more like a stem and can reach heights of 40cm+ and spreading 10 to 20 cm wide.
Emersed Growth
Hygrophila pinnatifida if left, can break the waters surface and grow out of the tank, its leaves change to a more green colour with an almost velvety texture. It requires humidity to thrive out of water.
Key Information
- Trimming encourages tighter bushier growth
- It thrives under intense lighting, causing redder colouration and more compact growth
